This is a great primer about character animation in Flash. Just one minor sticking point: the term 2.5D has been around for many years, and is even used by various animation software vendors to promote their products. So I'm not sure about the author's claim to have invented it. But this article is an excellent, highly detailed walkthrough of just how 2.5D technique works.
