Macromedia Offers Elementary Schools Contribute 3, Reduced Licensing Fee
Macromedia Offers Elementary Schools Contribute 3, Reduced Licensing Fee

In an effort geared towards familiarizing elementary students with media applications, Macromedia announced a new, affordable license for elementary schools. This is the first time that Macromedia has offered licenses, reduced or otherwise, on the elementary level.

The license will likely cost around $1,500.00 and will be available in mid-August to US and Canada only. The program is open to both public and private schools for students in grades K-6.  The license ships with both Windows and Apple compatible applications.

The software included with the license includes Macromedia Studio MX 2004, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Macromedia Flash MX 2004, Fireworks MX 2004, FreeHand MX, ColdFusion MX 6.1 Developers Edition (Windows Only), and Macromedia Flash Player 6. Dreamweaver MX 2004 also includes Macromedia HomeSite+.

Ten copies of Studio MX 2004 are included.  Macromedia hopes that its applications are implemented school-wide.  This elementary license differs from the Academic Transactional License Option and the Premier Education Program (PEP). Elementary schools wills be able to implement Contribute 3 school-wide.

With Contribute, making and updating websites becomes an easy, three-step process, whereby sites can be maintained by browsing for information, editing it, and publishing directly into the site. With this cut and paste approach Macromedia has made it easy for students and teachers alike to begin their media creation adventures.

It's a wonder it has the entry fee, but Sun Thursday showed up for the RIA race against Adobe’s Flex, Flash, and AIR and Microsoft's Silverlight – and for that matter the open source AJAX – riding JavaFX 1.0. According to Sun it's one of the most significant advances ever to come...

Adobe and ARM are gonna put Flash Player 10 and AIR, the stuff of web video and rich Internet apps, on ARM widgets by the second half of next year. They mean phones, set-tops, MIDs, TVs, car mojo and personal media devices, which have so far only had access to Flash Lite, not the best ...
