Altimeter Group Launches Social Data Intelligence Roadmap

Research and Consulting Firm Empowers Companies to Turn Social Data Into Actionable Intelligence

SAN MATEO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/18/14 -- Altimeter Group, a research and consulting firm that helps companies understand and act on technology disruption, today announced a new service offering, the Social Data Intelligence (SDI) Roadmap. The SDI Roadmap is designed for enterprises that use, or plan to use, social and digital data for performance optimization and business decision-making. The SDI Roadmap is built on a maturity model, authored by Altimeter Group, which is based upon detailed interviews with enterprise social data users and technology developers. The model proposes a holistic view of social data use across the enterprise and lays out a set of criteria for organizational maturity.

Altimeter Group's research shows that the typical enterprise-class company owns some 131 social media accounts, spread across as many as 13 departments. "We developed the SDI Roadmap because social data has become business-critical for the enterprise," said Susan Etlinger, Industry Analyst, Altimeter Group. "At the same time, social data lacks standards and is typically separate from other critical business data such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Business Intelligence (BI) and market research, leading to partially informed decisions, internal discord, missed opportunities and risk."

The SDI Roadmap includes a comprehensive company-wide audit that covers 35 aspects of internal readiness for social data intelligence within six major categories, including scope, strategy, context, governance, metrics and data.

Following the audit phase of the SDI Roadmap, Altimeter Group provides clients with its findings in the form of a Social Data Intelligence scorecard -- an executive dashboard -- delivering a "health score" for each of the six categories being measured. In addition, the accompanying social data maturity map provides a view into an organization's relative level of maturity in incorporating social data across the enterprise. At the conclusion of the eight to 12-week engagement, Altimeter Group delivers a series of pragmatic recommendations, mapped to scorecard findings, which give actionable steps to identify opportunities and risk, improve business performance, and leverage social data for competitive advantage.
