StillSecure Announces Technical Upgrade to Award-Winning NAC Solution Safe Access(R)

New Version Significantly Increases Number of Devices Managed per Server From 10,000 to 30,000; Allows Customers to Enforce Policies Based on User and Time of Day

SUPERIOR, CO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/05/13 -- StillSecure®, a leading managed security services provider and certified compliance company, today announced a technical upgrade to its award-winning Network Access Control (NAC) solution, Safe Access®. The new version, Safe Access 6.1, will significantly increase the number of supported end-user devices from 10,000 to 30,000 devices per server and adds cloud support.

Safe Access®, the world's best, most secure network access control (NAC) solution, ensures that compromised, dangerous endpoints are restricted from an organization's network. The solution thoroughly tests all managed endpoints to verify that every device is compliant with a pre-set number of the organization's security and access policies. And, based on initial test results, Safe Access will then restrict non-compliant machines to segments of the network where they cannot cause harm.

Used by most major U.S. military branches under the Department of Defense (DoD), Safe Access is the only NAC solution that allows users to set compliance policy by Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs), and provides the ability to research IAVA details by providing direct linking to the U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) website. StillSecure's IAV compliance testing includes support for Microsoft® Windows® client and server operating systems, Microsoft Office®, Adobe® products, BlackBerry Enterprise Server®, and others. Other high-value tests include McAfee® HBSS health and currency checks, USB device history, anti-virus and anti-malware health and currency checks, verification of data-at-rest encryption enablement, and rogue device detection.

"The simple fact is that employees and visitors are bringing their own devices into the office -- smartphones, tablets, personal laptops and in some cases, personal gaming devices -- and they expect to be able to use them for work. This makes it tough for an IT manager to ensure the corporate network is safe," said James D. Brown, Chief Technology Officer for StillSecure. "Enforcing policies based on user roles and the ability to restrict access for individual employees to certain times of the day and specific days of the week is a crucial security feature for our customers."

Under Safe Access 6.1, customers can now test and enforce policies based on user role, as well as give employees, contractors, and guests different access based on the time of day. Most policies are based on specific devices, however, with Safe Access if a laptop fails and an employee needs a loaner, Safe Access 6.1 will immediately recognize that employee and allow him normal access on the temporary device. Further, guest users can be allowed on only during business hours, and employees logging in during the day can be trusted more than those logging in at night, to offset off-hours staffing differences. Bottom line -- only workers who are supposed to have access to the network at certain hours of the day can get on.

Safe Access 6.1 also supports cloud deployments, offering its full compliance test capabilities, and the ability to enforce access controls for non-compliant cloud instances. Most other network access control systems require interaction with physical switches, agents on each cloud instance, or can only control access at the network boundary to enforce access limitations. Safe Access 6.1 can either ensure the compliance of endpoints connecting to a cloud, or can ensure the compliance of devices within the cloud. It does so with or without an agent, so a compromise of an agent on a cloud instance does not automatically allow it to gain virtual network access. And, Safe Access enforcement servers can be deployed in multiple cloud environments and managed by a central console, giving IT managers one complete view into the status of all compliance and enforcement tasks in every environment -- cloud, virtual, or physical.

In May 2012, Safe Access was honored with an "Innovator Rating" and received one of the highest product scores among seven other vendors in a report from the Info-Tech Research Group entitled, "Vendor Landscape: Network Access Control." StillSecure also received the highest Value Index™ score of the group and was listed as an "Exemplary Performer" in the areas of post-connect threat monitoring and containment, and full mobility support. In addition, Safe Access was recently named a finalist in the 2013 SC Magazine Awards in the Reader Trust Awards "Best NAC product" category. The company was also named a winner in the "Best Endpoint Security Solution" category of the 4th Annual Homeland Security Awards competition by Government Security News this past November.

About Safe Access
Safe Access is a certified NAC solution that stops unauthorized access, prevents malicious endpoint activity, and enforces an organization's security policies. It also helps companies comply with PCI, HIPAA, GLBA, FISMA and SOX. Safe Access is deployed widely in the DoD and across leading mid- to large-scale enterprises. Also, Safe Access is the NAC solution of choice for the world's largest and most demanding NAC deployment with the Department of Defense (over 700,000 end users).

Safe Access provides control over how security policies are defined and enforced across a network. Further, Safe Access defines and enforces the rules and criteria for authorizing access to the network. The solution provides numerous access control options for devices that either meet or do not meet security policy, and for either guest or unmanaged devices. With its purpose-built base lining engine, Safe Access has unparalleled testing speed, even with a very broad test set. Safe Access can be deployed on either virtual or physical hosts, and allows IT administrators to quickly and safely control access of all bring-your-own-devices (BYOD), including identification and enforcement capabilities.

Safe Access can be purchased directly from StillSecure or through its network of resellers.

Things are being built upon cloud foundations to transform organizations. This CEO Power Panel at 15th Cloud Expo, moderated by Roger Strukhoff, Cloud Expo and @ThingsExpo conference chair, will address the big issues involving these technologies and, more important, the results they will achieve. How important are public, private, and hybrid cloud to the enterprise? How does one define Big Data? And how is the IoT tying all this together?

TechCrunch reported that "Berlin-based relayr, maker of the WunderBar, an Internet of Things (IoT) hardware dev kit which resembles a chunky chocolate bar, has closed a $2.3 million seed round, from unnamed U.S. and Switzerland-based investors. The startup had previously raised a €250,000 friend and family round, and had been on track to close a €500,000 seed earlier this year — but received a higher funding offer from a different set of investors, which is the $2.3M round it’s reporting."
The Industrial Internet revolution is now underway, enabled by connected machines and billions of devices that communicate and collaborate. The massive amounts of Big Data requiring real-time analysis is flooding legacy IT systems and giving way to cloud environments that can handle the unpredictable workloads. Yet many barriers remain until we can fully realize the opportunities and benefits from the convergence of machines and devices with Big Data and the cloud, including interoperability, data security and privacy.
All major researchers estimate there will be tens of billions devices - computers, smartphones, tablets, and sensors - connected to the Internet by 2020. This number will continue to grow at a rapid pace for the next several decades. Over the summer Gartner released its much anticipated annual Hype Cycle report and the big news is that Internet of Things has now replaced Big Data as the most hyped technology. Indeed, we're hearing more and more about this fascinating new technological paradigm. Every other IT news item seems to be about IoT and its implications on the future of digital busines...
