“lynda.com has become a leader in online education due in part to the company’s world-class engineering organization,” said Eric Robison, lynda.com president and CEO. “And now we have the leader who will build on that for our future. Frits’ team will craft new innovations in e-learning that leverage emerging technologies to help people around the world successfully pursue lifelong learning. We couldn’t be more pleased with what he brings to our culture, community and capabilities.”
Habermann joins as the company positions itself for aggressive growth in cloud infrastructure, and to scale on mobile and international platforms to support its subscription-based library of video tutorials serving more than 2 million software, creative and business skills learners.
“I couldn’t be happier to join lynda.com at this time of growth,” said Habermann. “I share the company’s passion for education and look forward to expanding our technology platform to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities in mobile, social and international markets.”
Habermann joins lynda.com from Seattle-based PopCap Games, a leading online game platform and a known provider of global-scale free online games. As CTO and vice president of social game operations, Habermann led the global technical growth of the company’s social, mobile and console games, including the popular Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled and BookWorm franchises. Prior to PopCap, Habermann held a number of positions at Adobe Systems Inc, where he was instrumental in the development of InDesign. More recently, he held the position of vice president of core technologies, supplying all the fundamental technologies to flagship products Photoshop, Acrobat, Flash, Illustrator and InDesign. Before Adobe, Habermann held several development and engineering management roles at RealNetworks, Edmark and Siemens.
“Our growth depends on our platform’s ability to accommodate more functionality, more tutorials and more members from around the world,” said Lynda Weinman, lynda.com co-founder and executive chair. “We’re very excited to have Frits here because he is the right technology leader at the right time for us to apply his innovation and software experience towards the ongoing evolution of lynda.com.”
