Sorenson Media today announced that the company’s high-volume, enterprise-grade Squeeze Server 2.0 has been selected as the video on demand transcoding solution for iStreamPlanet cloud-based services.
In September 2012, iStreamPlanet, a leading provider of live and on-demand streaming video solutions for prominent enterprise clients in the global technology, sports and entertainment markets, announced that it would move its entire portfolio of existing and future products and services to the cloud. As a part of this transition, iStreamPlanet has chosen Squeeze Server 2.0 as the platform to encode and transcode video on demand files and to optimize delivery to every leading format and device in the increasingly multi-screen online video marketplace.
“In our continual effort to respond proactively to the growing needs of our global customer base to deliver live online video across a wide array of platforms, Sorenson Media’s Squeeze Server emerged as the clear choice for our cloud-based encoding and transcoding services,” said Chris Carper, SVP of iStreamPlanet. “Our customers will benefit from Sorenson Media’s exceptional video quality and ability to meet the variety of formats and devices on the market.”
The customizable, scalable Squeeze Server 2.0 enables enterprises and other high-volume users to encode and transcode the highest-quality video quickly and efficiently in public or private cloud-based environments or hybrid environments consisting of local and cloud servers.
One of the many benefits of Squeeze Server is its unique ability to encode into the most popular formats at the highest-possible quality, including support for all four of the market’s most popular adaptive bitrate platforms: MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH); Adobe Flash Dynamic Streaming (FDS); Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS); and Microsoft Smooth Streaming. Squeeze Server automatically transcodes individual video files into chunked segments categorized by bitrate, organizes the segments into folders and delivers them to every specified destination for playback—streamlining workflows by eliminating unnecessary tools and steps required by other applications.
“We are excited that iStreamPlanet, one of the leading innovators of live and on-demand streaming workflow products and services, has selected Sorenson Media’s Squeeze Server 2.0 as its cloud-based encoding and transcoding solution,” said Kirk Punches, vice president of business development and strategy for Sorenson Media. “This decision reflects a strong mutual commitment by two best-in-class companies to optimize workflow for content holders, aggregators and distributors, delivering the highest-quality encoded video for today’s evolving multi-device, multi-platform environment.”
Compatible for Microsoft Server 2008 or later, Squeeze Server 2.0 provides a wide range of benefits for the enterprise and others with high-performance encoding and transcoding needs, including: a sophisticated core encoding algorithm that maximizes available server CPUs for each encode; a redesigned user interface that enables easy workflow management, as well as remote server control from a browser or iOS device; easy installation, ready for full use within minutes of opening the box; dedicated, Gold-Tier support and maintenance; ongoing included updates and upgrades; a rigorous, REST-based API; hundreds of optimized presets that are device-agnostic and optimize playback in any major format; and additional benefits flowing from Sorenson Media’s strategic partnerships with Amazon Web Services, Avid and others.
