Top publishing-automation experts from Silicon Publishing—including some of the legendary creators of Adobe InDesign—will be giving in-person demos, answering questions, and soaking up new knowledge as sponsors of the 2012 Print and ePublishing Conference (PePcon) in San Francisco from May 14 to 16.
Silicon Publishing’s forté is automating industry-scale server-based publishing solutions based on Adobe InDesign Server. In this context, they also automate desktop InDesign with plug-ins and CS Extensions, for example extending desktop InDesign to fully support web-to-print workflows with their Silicon Designer platform for online document editing.
Recently, Silicon Publishing has extended InDesign for two of their partner companies, Fotolia and MediaBeacon, who will both be attending PePcon as well. Fotolia is co-sponsoring the event with Silicon Publishing, and will be demonstrating the free Fotolia CS Extension built by Silicon Publishing that lets users access stock images from within Creative Suite applications. MediaBeacon will be debuting their brand new MediaBeacon Publisher, which uses Silicon Connector technology to enable direct access to assets in the MediaBeacon repository from InDesign.
Concurrent with the conference, Silicon Publishing will be launching a resources page on their web site that will include free InDesign scripts written by InDesign guru Olav Martin Kvern. While some of these scripts are just for fun, for example generating art from InDesign paths, some are very utilitarian, including an SVG export script that helps with rendering InDesign content on tablet devices.
Max Dunn, Silicon Publishing co-founder and CEO, said “We’re honored to know and work with the entire community of experts who will be at PePcon next week, and grateful to be enjoying more rewards than ever from working with InDesign all these years. The product is second to none for both rendition capability and extensibility.”
Dunn’s assessment of PePCon is that it “is the most useful conference for InDesign users because it’s designed to put them within hand-shaking distance of the greatest InDesign experts on earth, find out what they have to say, ask questions, and get a very intensive education in just three days.”
