Radware, a provider of application delivery and application security solutions for virtual and cloud data centers, on Monday announced it has joined the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a new approach to networking called Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
As a member of the ONF, Radware will contribute its views and the company's expertise in areas that include:
- How application delivery controllers (ADCs) can be integrated into next-generation data centers and take advantage of the OpenFlow/SDN supported networks,
- How network and application security tools can be integrated and take full advantage of the OpenFlow and SDN approach,
- Contributing to the ONF working groups in establishing OpenFlow standard specs that would allow smoother integration of ADCs and security tools to next-generation SDN networks.
SDN technologies provide network owners and operators better control over their networks, allowing them to optimize network behavior to best serve their customers' needs. While networking technologies continue to evolve, the ONF believes that more rapid innovation is needed.
"Application acceleration and attack prevention capabilities across distributed networks are essential to ensure the smooth working of mission-critical applications for enterprises of all sizes, and Radware's expertise in ADCs and information security platforms enables organizations to build highly available and secured OpenFlow supported networks," said Avi Chesla, Chief Technology Officer, Radware. "We look forward to working with all global companies involved with the Open Networking Foundation and sharing best practices for the future of enterprise networking."
While workloads continue to transition across next-generation networks and data centers, there is a greater need for institutions to become more dynamic by increasing application performance while reducing the risk of security breaches. As a member of the ONF, Radware's OpenFlow Services Delivery Fabric architecture takes advantage of OpenFlow programming abilities to manage a pool of service delivery resources and value-added services to deliver high network and application availability, elasticity, layer 4 through 7 load balancing, and network security solutions based on OpenFlow and Radware's solutions.
"Stronger definition of network behavior in software is a growing trend, and open interfaces are going to lead to faster innovation," said Dan Pitt, executive director, Open Networking Foundation. "We are excited to be joined by leading global companies to help develop and implement advanced networking capabilities for today's enterprises."
Radware will be demonstrating its OpenFlow Service Delivery Fabric architecture at the Open Networking Summit 2012, April 16 through 18 at the Santa Clara Marriott, Santa Clara, California. Radware's OpenFlow Service Delivery Fabric will show how collaboration between computing fabric, service delivery fabric and the OpenFlow based network fabric creates one, service aware data center - thus proving the value of the SDN approach, and more specifically, the value of OpenFlow.
