Safari® Books Online (www.safaribooksonline.com), the leading on-demand digital library for technology, digital media, and business professionals, announced today that it is sponsoring a new Super Techie Achievement Challenge – aka Coder Challenge – that will honor technology professionals who are utilizing technology in creative ways which advance the technology industry.
For the Coder Challenge, Safari Books Online is simply asking professionals to submit the details of their project through an online form. All projects must have been completed within the last 12 months. Submissions should include information such as the resources used, time to complete, technologies learned, and anything else that is deemed important. The deadline to enter the competition is Nov. 30, 2009, and winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. However, online voting and comments are encouraged. Online voting closes Dec. 11, 2009. Winners will be announced on the Safari Online Books blog on Dec. 18. Additional information about the challenge can be found at http://safaribooksonline.com/Corporate/SuperGeekishCodingSkills/.
The Coder Challenge winners selected by the panel of judges will receive a 3-month subscription to Safari Books Online and an invitation to join Tim O’Reilly, CEO and founder of O’Reilly Media, Inc., for an evening of dinner and conversation in Sebastopol, California, on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010.
One of the winners of the last Coder Challenge was a technology professional that developed an automated method of testing for Tuberculosis in chest X-Rays. “With the success of our first Coder Challenge in August and September, Safari Books Online was anxious to kick off the next challenge,” said Rose St. Clair, marketing manager, Safari Books Online. “This challenge is a great way to learn about the amazing projects that talented technology professionals are delivering. It also gives the technologist an opportunity to step back, reflect and celebrate his/her accomplishments. We can’t wait to see the entries.”
